Inner voice(personal/want)

After spending a lot of time thinking about what my inner dialogue is now, I started wondering what I want it to be.

I don't want it to tell me that everything turned out perfectly. It didn't.

I don't want it to tell me I made all the right decisions. I didn't.

I don't want it to pretend that there aren't things I would change if I could go back. There are plenty.

But I would like it to be a little more fair. Instead of constantly reminding me of what I got wrong, I would like it to occasionally remind me of what I got right.

I would like it to remind me that I have a wife who still loves me and enjoys spending time with me. I would like it to remind me that my kids have turned into adults that I am proud of. To remind me that while I may not have always made the best financial decisions, I eventually made better ones. To remind me that the blessings I received weren't wasted. To remind me that I can't go back and invest sooner, save sooner, or work less.

But I can make better decisions today.

I would like it to remind me that regret is only useful if it teaches me something. After that, it's just baggage. I would like it to remind me that I am still here. I still have time with Angie. I still have time with my kids.

I still have opportunities in front of me. I still have work to do. I still have people to help. I still have things to learn.

Most of all, I would like it to remind me that God has been far better to me than I have deserved. Not because I earned it. Not because I always made the right choices. But because He is good.

Maybe that's what I want my inner dialogue to sound like.

Not a voice that ignores my mistakes. Just one that gives equal time to the blessings.
