The Army(part 3)

When you are a mechanic in the aviation division of the Army your main goal is to get into the flight platoon. There are different ways to get into flight, the main reason is to work your butt off to get noticed. You must learn the aircraft, prove your worth, and do your time. I did all of the above and got to do some flights while still in maintenance. I remember that my first flight was at night, I also wasn't the only maintenance person on board. Before the flight, a friend of mine gave me some pointers, on what not to do specifically. There are 2 windows on each of the cargo doors and you can pull a handle to pop them out in the event of an emergency. When we came into land at the end of the flight the other maintenance person pulled that handle and both of the windows popped out. Needless to say that person denied doing that, they tried to say that I did it. The biggest problem with this is that I was in the back of the aircraft and I couldn't reach that handle even if had...

The Army(part 2)

When I was brand new at my first duty station I really didn't know anything. I ended up with a couple people that I went to AIT with but that is all I knew. There is a variety of people that stay in the barracks, the only thing that they have in common is that none of them are married. You have drinkers, smokers, chewers, partyers, men, women, churchgoers, and every other kind of person that you can think of. You would think that it would be a hotbed for altercations and arguments but for the most part, we all got along.  Our barracks had 3 floors, the bottom floor was the admin types, the second floor was the aviation troops and the top floor was the non-commissioned officers. The NCOs were kind of in charge of the barracks and they kept order for the most part. When I first got there I heard of a guy who was borderline crazy, he would do crazy things to prove that he was better than anyone else. One story that I remember was, that he went into the bathroom after a GI party(...

Being a medic, the roller coaster(part 3)

As an EMT life is easier as you are not ultimately responsible for what happens in/on your truck. You are a team for sure however when the rubber meets the road... As I have said before, I had some incredible partners, they were seasoned, and they were great teachers. My partners would let me do anything and everything that they could possibly let me do. I wanted to learn, I wanted to excel and I wanted to be the best at what I did. It was only through their guidance and teaching that I could become who I am today.  I look back at my EMT days and I am proud of them. I wanted to ride every call that I could. If it wasn't something that legally the medic had to ride then I rode it. I didn't mind doing that way, it was more work but it was also a way to improve my skills, and improve how I interacted with patients and with staff at the hospitals. Unfortunately, nowadays that is not the case, people want to do as little as they can get away with and it shows. I will never forget ...

The Army

I graduated from high school in 1988, after school I pretty much moved out and worked at a couple farms until I got hurt. It was after I got hurt and didn't get any support from the last one that I decided to go into the Army. What a ride! When I was at the recruiter, I got my ASVAB score and was looking into what I could do. I wanted to get into air traffic control like my dad but was told that there were no slots available. Looking back I think that I didn't score high enough. They started showing me helicopters and told me that I could be a mechanic and fly. The Apache looked cool but I couldn't fly on it, next was the Chinook and I said "That looks like a flying dumpster" so that was out. Lastly was the Blackhawk, it looked cool and I could fly too. So that was a go, next was where I wanted to be stationed after schooling. I had no clue where to go, I remember the recruiter asking "Are you married? Nope. Do you plan on getting married soon? Nope. Go to G...

If I could only go back(part 2)

I will say that this post will be for the mature only. It will be a sensitive and adult topic so please be forewarned.  Porn, Webster's dictionary defines porn as 1.
