There has to be more(Prada)

 The Realization

My wife and I went to see The Devil Wears Prada 2(I haven't even seen the first one) the other night, and there was a scene that stuck with me afterward. Meryl Streep’s character was reflecting on her life, her career, and all the things she had missed because of it. The success. The sacrifices. The relationships. The time that never comes back.

And honestly, it hit me a lot harder than I expected.

It got me thinking about my own life. The years spent working. The missed moments. The family dinners, conversations, vacations, and little memories that probably seemed small at the time but meant everything in hindsight. The times I was physically present somewhere but mentally still stuck at work, stressed about money, exhausted, distracted, or just trying to survive life.

I started thinking about how many years I spent believing that if I just worked harder, sacrificed more, pushed through a little longer, or made a little more money, eventually life would slow down and everything would fall into place. But the truth is, life does not really slow down on its own. The years just keep moving, whether you notice them or not.

And one day, you look around and realize your kids are grown. People you loved are gone. Friendships faded. Your body is more tired than it used to be. And there are moments you would give almost anything to go back and experience one more time, except now you understand their value when it is too late to get them back.

I think a lot of people eventually reach a point where they quietly ask themselves:
“There has to be more than this.”

Not more money.
Not more status.
Not more stuff.

Just… more meaning. More peace. More time with the people you love. More moments you actually remember instead of rushing through life trying to just get ahead.

I do not think most people realize how much of their life they are trading away until enough years have passed for them to finally stop and look back. And maybe that is part of getting older. You start understanding that time is the one thing you never get back.

Maybe that is also when you start realizing that some of the things you spent your whole life chasing were never what mattered most in the first place.
