FB friends(part 3)

 More friends...

Let us start with Alex Farlow. I have known Alex since he worked at Chick-fil-A, as a matter of fact, he hooked me up with a roll of stickers from there. We discussed EMS, and he told me he was going into that field one day. Lo and behold he showed up as a student. Alex had a lot of questions and he was super cool to have ride with us. The next stop was paramedic school and he rode with me again. Alex is super smart, he interacts well with patients and worked well with us on the truck like we all belonged there. After Alex was on the street for a while he moved on to nursing school. As a seasoned medic, you love to see people progress and you also hate to see people progress. Alex was what I like to call "one of the good ones", it was sad to see him leaving the EMS field. Alex is now an RN, he is a husband and a father. It has been a privilege to see him mature personally and professionally. Alex, I know we never see each other or talk anymore but I do think of you often.

Allesan Rose Perez, we went to school together in Colorado. I remember her most from Jr. High at West Jeff. You were always laughing and were just fun to be around. You and I weren't in the same crowds(mostly because I wasn't cool enough to be part of a crowd), but I remember seeing you most of the time when we went to lunch. You had this teeny tiny friend that you always hung around with but I can't remember her name. I can tell you that my most fond memory of both of you is something I still regret to this day. We had gotten our yearbooks and as I said out loud what I was writing you got mad at me, and you told me that your dad was going to kill you. I want you to know, that I have been and remain deeply sorry for that. I have a few memories in my life that I wish I could go back and change, this one is one of them. I am sorry once again. Following you on FB, I can see that you have a wonderful family and some cute grands. I wish you and your family well.

Next is the Queen..."Queen" Mary Livingston. I met Mary when we were working at Hunter together, She worked in unit supply, and when I was on flight status I had to go to her office occasionally. Mary worked with "Princess Farrah"(she will be on here later), and we would all go to lunch together from time to time. I think our favorite place to go was the Vietnamese place. Mary's husband also worked at Hunter, Nick was a Blackhawk mechanic as was I. We all thought he was crazy when he left aviation to get into law enforcement. It was a serious pay cut but he said that is what he wanted to do. Little did I know that I would do the same thing years later. Looking at Mary's FB, I swear she has the fountain of youth on her property as she never ages. I sure miss seeing her beautiful smile.

Let me tell you about Paul Scott, Paul is another friend who was taken too soon. My buddy Paul was a joker, he loved to make people laugh and was the life of the party. In the picture as part of this post, you will see Paul in the middle of a dog pile which happened at our buddy Ray Luna's house. We were all in the service back then and we were blowing off steam and having a great time. Paul was an awesome mechanic, a great crew chief, and a guy who would do anything for anyone. I have followed his travels over the years and even chatted with him about what he has been up to. Paul has always loved working on helicopters and loved being a crew chief.  When I was in the service with Paul, he had the cutest little girls who he loved to pieces. Paul had no enemies, he had a ton of friends and he is definitely missed. Rest in peace, my friend.

Next up is my Friend Alex Pena. I met Alex when I worked for SS and he showed up to be my partner. Alex was another of those who just got it. Alex learned so quickly, he was amazing with patients, family members, and staff members. Alex has an easy way about him, he has a soft voice but he controls the scene like nobody's business. Alex went through paramedic school without a hitch and became a lead medic in no time flat. I used to see Alex from time to time, but now he is working in Beaufort County so I don't get that chance anymore. Alex, I miss seeing you my friend, I hope you're doing well and stay safe out there my friend.

Let me end with good ole Nichole Minehart. This young lady is a hoot, I give her crap when I walk in the ER and she gives right back to me. I met Nichole at SS as well, she was an EMT and as soon as I met her I knew that she could handle her own. She is the "I take no crap from nobody" type of woman as well. I've seen her embarrass more than one guy(patients and colleagues), and I have also seen her super sweet to patients and family. Nichole was also one of those who moved up into the nursing career field and works in the local ER. She is married and has a handsome little boy. The only thing I can say bad about her is that she is a proud Florida State fan. But we won't hold that against her too much. Don't call me I'll call you Nichole.

  1. This really makes me wonder where my yearbook is so I can see what you wrote! I am wondering if you are thinking about Michelle Self - I always thought I was huge because she was so petite - It is funny how our perspective changes as we age!

It makes me sad to think you have carried the burden of that moment for 30+ years! Please release yourself from the regret Darrin - I can assure you that I have never harbored any ill feelings toward you! I always saw you as a kind and sincere person who was doing his best to navigate through adolescence just like I was. Let me tell you - we did a stellar job!
