Things to ask your dad...Kai
I came across a guy on Instagram who posted a series of questions, It was things to ask your dad before it's too late. This struck a chord with me, as I have recently lost my dad some questions pop into my head all the time that I want to ask my dad about. These questions are asked as if I were the son asking my dad, however, I am changing it around and making it as if my kids are asking me these questions. I will make each post the answers for each of my kids. I hope this works out the way it does in my head.
I have decided to start with my youngest child Kai, and work my way up. Then again I might just bounce around, I am still trying to decide.
1. What is your favorite memory of us?
This is a really tough one to answer as there are so many. I can definitely say that the time that we spend together is a highlight in my life. I really love the fact that you give me hugs that come with meaning and love. I look forward to those hugs so much, not to mention when you call me out of the blue. I grin from ear to ear when my phone rings and I see that it is you, those calls mean more than you know.
2. What were the first few days of fatherhood like?
The first few days that you were alive were terrifying and yet so gratifying. When you were born, you had difficulty breathing and you were taken by a special team to the ICU at the children's hospital. Your mom had to stay at the adult hospital, so I was lucky enough to feed you first and to be the first to change your diaper. I was scared but so happy.
3. What have you learned about love, and what has it taught you?
Wow, this is a good one. Love should be blind and love should be patient. I am not sure if you remember, but when you guys were younger I would give you the reference of Shallow Hal. It was a movie in which Jack Black fell in love with the inner beauty of women rather than their physical beauty. Love should not be rushed, another thing that I told you guys was that you should not make any life-changing decisions until you are at least 25. Don't get married, no kids, and no joint major purchases to name a few.
4. What was a moment you felt most proud of me?
This is another hard one for me to answer. I would have to say that it is something that you have been doing recently. The fact that you have started getting more involved in church, more importantly, the fact that you have been sharing what is going on in your spiritual life. It makes me so happy that you are loving your church and your spiritual walk.
5. What do you want or wish most for your kids?
This is an easy one, I want you to be happy. I don't care if you are rich, have the greatest job in the world, or anything like that. Just be happy. Take time for yourself, take time for your family, and do what you like to do. Have fun
6. What is the nicest thing I have done for you?
This is best a two-fold answer. First, you keep me involved in your life. You share with me the things that are going on with your life, your job, your church, your finances, and your personal life. Second, you have told me that you have felt sorry about things that have happened in the past. I don't mean things that you have specifically done or things that you had any control over.
7. What is one thing that you want me to always remember after you are gone?
As you have been working you have seen that there are all kinds of people out there. The thing is that they are all people, they all put their pants on the same way. They should all be treated the same. I have told you in the past something that I have asked several people who thought they were better than someone else..." What sound does a rich man make when he stops breathing? The same as a poor man". No matter how good you think you are, you still need people under you to help you do what you do. The janitor is just as important as the CEO. Treat everyone with respect. Love everyone, you don't necessarily need to like everyone but you do need to love them.
Kai, you are an amazing young man, you have accomplished so much and I can't wait to see what your future holds for you. Keep growing in your faith, take time for yourself, make time for your family, and be happy. I love you and I am so proud of you.

Oh man, I love this. Definitely teared up a bit.
