Things to ask your dad...Jen

I came across a guy on Instagram who posted a series of questions, It was things to ask your dad before it's too late. This struck a chord with me, as I have recently lost my dad some questions pop into my head all the time that I want to ask my dad about. These questions are asked as if I were the son asking my dad, however, I am changing it around and making it as if my kids are asking me these questions. I will make each post the answers for each of my kids. I hope this works out the way it does in my head.

I am not going in any specific order with these posts. I have decided to go with my amazing daughter Jen next. Angie says..."Her name is Jenny and she will always be Jenny". In my opinion, once you get to be successful and to the age Jen is then you lose the kiddy name. That is except Joey. lol

1. What is your favorite memory of us?

There are so many things that I can write here, it is impossible to say just one thing. When you were younger and we lived in Germany, I loved to play with you outside. We would play in the hof, when you were older we would all play chase on roller blades. You have always been a happy person with a beautiful smile.

2. What were the first few days of fatherhood like?

When you came into my life it was pure joy. You were always bouncing around, laughing, smiling, and having fun. I will never forget the morning that you called our apartment from Opa's, I answered the phone and you said giggly "Hi Daddy". It was at this time, that I knew I messed up. I was on my third day at a new job and being late was definitely going to get me fired. When I got to work that morning, I told my boss what happened(including what you said and how cute you said it), he just smiled and told me to get to work.

3. What have you learned about love, and what has it taught you?

I have learned that you should not settle with who you fall in love with. They should not be the first person that you feel physically attracted to. Love is patient, the right person is not always the first person. Take your time, and enjoy the wait because the right person will be well worth it.

4. What was a moment you felt most proud of me?

This is another one that will not be easy, there are so many. I will start with the fact that we moved here when you were in elementary school, you were not really fluent in English and those times were tough. You tried so hard and learned so fast with the help of Ms. Elenore and your teachers. I remember your teachers telling me that they were so overwhelmed at first, that they weren't sure how to teach you. But you buckled down and impressed everyone. Next, would have to be all your accomplishments in sports. You started with softball and did great at that, next was basketball which you did amazing at, and then volleyball. You were a baller at everything you played, which made me so proud.

5. What do you want or wish most for your kids?

I have to go with the same answer as I have with the others, I just want my kids to be happy. I don't care if they are rich, have a big house, or have a fancy car. I just want to see a smile on their face, to be happy with the person that they are with and happy with what they are doing.

6. What is the nicest thing I have done for you?

I love it when you call me dad, that just melts my heart every time. I also love the fact that when you come to Savannah you let me know. It seems like our luck is usually bad getting together but you still let me know. I love it when we get to have dinner together and catch up with what is going on with your life.

7. What is one thing that you want me to always remember after you are gone?

I want you to always remember that you are an amazing young lady. You have overcome so many obstacles in your life and you are doing great things. You have a good career and you are expanding your roles. You will be an amazing teacher and the people that you evaluate will be better because you will show them the right way to be and the right way to do things.

Jen, there is no way that I could tell you how proud of you that I have been for your whole life. You have excelled in everything that you've done, you have played hard in everything that you have played. I can not wait to see what the future has in store for you, and I just want you to be happy. I love you!
